What is THCA

What is THCAWhat is THCA – The cannabis plant is a source for at least 70 cannabinoids, and these include the psychoactive compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Over the years, many studies have proved that THC helps with the decreasing of vomiting and nausea in patients who suffer from cancer. When compared THC to anti temic drugs, THC was found not only as effective but even more. In many animal models such as mice, ferrets, rats and monkeys, it was shown that the same anti temic effect apply.
Cannabigerol (CBGA) is the original molecule in the cannabis plant from which, through a chain of enzymatic pathways (processes that include proteins that can change the structure of molecules), many cannabinoids including THCA. The molecule THCA or tetrahydrocannabinolic acid by its full name is the mother molecule of THC and its origin is in the cannabis plant itself. In a fresh plant, the substance goes through carboxylation (the removal of a hydroxy group oxygen-hydrogen) and transforms into THC by the means of heating or burning.
THCA prevents nausea, vomiting and other symptoms
What is THCA – In an experiment conducted on mice, researchers created nausea and vomiting state, induced by a lithium chloride solution (LiCl). When the effect of THCA was measured versus the registered drug ANOVA, it was found that both of them were acting effectively at decreasing the nausea-vomiting state induced by the LiCl solution. A second experiment conducted on ferrets showed similar results. Furthermore, even small doses of the THCA were needed in order to decrease the effects of LiCl solution.
What is THCA – Even more, a question arises whether THCA, like commercial drugs, induces hypothermia (a dramatic decrease in body temperature that causes shaking and even death) effect or decreases locomotive ability. In the same experiments conducted on mice, other parameters were analyzed such as the body temperature of the test subjects and their mobility. All of the results showed, in a nonambiguous manner, that THCA did not cause a decrease in the body temperature of the subject that put it in danger and in an activity test, that was conducted for 15 minutes, there wasn’t any visible effect on the distance the subjects went through.
What is THCA – THCA mechanics in the body
The cannabinoid receptor CB1 is a G-protein coupled receptor (a protein made out of seven domains connected to the cell membrane which receives signals from outside molecules and transmit reactions to the inside of the cell) found abundant in the peripheral and central nervous systems. This receptor is activated by the cannabinoid family that functions as neurotransmitters (molecules that interact with receptors in various nerve cells).  In the processing of the experiment results and decoding the mechanism of action, it was shown that THCA prevents nausea and vomiting in a CB1 mediated reaction. Cannabis consumption in human beings is usually done through the heating or smoking the plant. In these cases, the amounts of THCA decrease dramatically and consumed almost completely, therefore, its effects are minimal. This experiment tested the effects on this receptor while the substance is consumed directly and showed through the results that by interacting with CB1 receptor, THCA molecule prevented nausea and vomiting effects on the test subject.
What is THCA – THCA vs. THC for treating nausea and vomiting
In all of the test group that was examined for nausea-vomiting, THC was used in the comparison. Prior studies in the field of THC showed that the substance helps to decrease nausea and vomiting in patients who suffer from cancer, mainly because the chemotherapy treatment that causes these side effects. Because most of the consumption of cannabis is through the processing of the flowers of leaves of the plant in the forms of cooking, heating, vaping and smoking, a question raised whether THCA molecules is effective as THC. It was shown in the experiments that identical amounts of THC and THCA used for treating the nausea-vomiting effect showed that THCA was much more effective than THC. In order to test if THCA was not digested in the body to THC, plasma (inner cell fluid) samples were taken and analyzed. It is reported that unlike THC, that no traces of it found, THCA showed traces. This result confirms that THCA itself mediated the decrease of the nausea-vomiting effects of the test subjects. Furthermore, THCA is not a psychoactive substance, meaning it is a more desirable candidate for treating nausea and vomiting since it is more effective and nonpsychoactive.
What is THCA – The results of this experiment shows that when asked what is THCA, were are getting a glance at a field that is vigorously studied in the past few years. The cannabinoid research field is developing rapidly revealing new efficient and natural ways to overcome difficult diseases and side effects caused by treating harsh illnesses such as cancer.
